Watching the locks from the shore
You don’t need your own boat in order to experience the Canal. The Canal can also by enjoyed from land. All the locks can be reached by car.
Here you can enjoy the busy life around the locks, which are operated in the same way as for 100 years ago. The locks in Ulefoss, Vrangfoss and Lunde are the busiest. Here the boats meet frequently and many passengers alight or disembark from the boats. You can also enjoy the peace of the beautiful parks that are laid beside some of the locks. In Ulefoss, Vrangfoss and Lunde you can combine a visit to the Canal with a pleasant meal and refreshments.
The Canal can also be enjoyed from land
A trip by passenger boat can be combined with a bus trip. There is free parking at the quay, so you take the boat one way and be driven back to your car by bus. At The Telemark Canal you can choose between tours from 2 - 11 hours, and there are many combinations. «The Canal Buses» bring you back to your starting point. Advance booking of tickets is recommended.
