The Telemark canal is perfect for an active holiday. Here, you will find various lenghts of bicycle routes, offering stunning nature and good exercise. You may naturally also enjoy the canal in a canoe or a cajak. You will find peace and quiet here, and the holiday can be regulated to your own pace, without having to stress.
Fishing
There aregreat fishing opportunities in the many lakes and waters. You may purchase fishing cards at Grenland Tourist Office, by Hjellebrygga quay in Skien. This card entitles you to rod fishing from the shore, and is also valid for salmon and sea trout. In addition, you can purchase fishing cards for salmon fishing from the Langebryggene quays in Skien. Dalen Tourist Office sells fishing cards for Bandak and Kviteseidvatn lakes.

Bicycling
Telemark is an exciting area for cyclists, and there are a number of different routes to choose from. One of the most scenic routes follows the Telemark Canal, which stretches 115 km from Ulefoss to Dalen. The route follows the canal most of the way, and shows a great variety of landscapes and cultural sights. The stretch is very steep in places. Between Ulefoss and Dalen the road is marked with bicycle signs, and there are also a number of additional routes from the Telemark Coast, Skien/Porsgrunn and Vestfold. The route goesalong roads with little traffic, in some places car-free roads.
The Canal Bicycle Route can be combined with a pleasant cruise onboard one of the canal boats. Bring your bike onboard and find your own bicycle route. Or let us do the preparations for you and order a tailor-made tour that includes accommodation, boat cruise, bicycle transport, bike rental etc. Ask for a brochure. A bicycle map can be purchased from Telemarkreiser, the local tourist offices, bookstores, bicycle shops etc. at a cost of NOK 120,-

Canoe
To canoe along the canal is a fascinating experience, and here you can choose the distance according to your needs, whether you have smallchildren or want a really challenging trip with friends.. You can start at Dalen and Notodden if you wish. For families we recommend the stretch from Kviteseid to Ulefoss.

Canal camping in Lunde
New camp site opened at Lunde locks for summer season 2006. Here there is also canoe hire with equipment which can be transported and collected from various locations along the Canal.
